OBSenMER database

All the versions of this article: [English] [Español] [français]

OBSenMER is a collaborative online platform that facilitates the collection of at sea sightings and their analysis. It concerns all types of sightings : marine mammals, fish, birds, but also human activities, such as boating, fishing, pollution, etc. It is intended for the general public as well as for professional naturalist organizations.

OBSenMER is freely accessible online to any organization specialized in data collection or simple boaters wishing to contribute to wildelife programs.

OBSenMER is totally in line with a participative and collective approach. A user charter has been established so that each contributor is recognized and valued, and can manage its own data. The commitments and attributions of each type of user are clearly defined, as well as the rules regarding data sharing.

In short, OBSenMER is :
- A tool made available online free of charge
- A mobile application aimed at facilitating the collection of information at sea, from beginner to expert level.
- A platform that facilitates the exchange and sharing of information between data collection organizations and persons (scientists, managers, etc.),
- A common, homogeneous and freely shared database.

How does it work ?
Registration is free and without obligation, each user has his/her own private access to the site www.obsenmer.org. He can thus consult, enter and download the data collected by the network of contributors.

Depending on the user’s profile, access to the different application functionalities is different. The user can be : an organization (association, marine park, research laboratory...) that collects data at sea and/or collects information from its partners ; or an observer (yachtsman, sea user) who reports his/her at sea observations.
